Ever thought about needing a padlock?

“Bless my soul; I must have a padlock for that…”

    • Yale padlocks for things from wheels to toolboxes to “stay” padlocks.
    • Barn doors — why a door at all if it’s not padlocked?
    • Bins – a Yale padlock makes your coal really yours
    • Bicycles, boat houses, & boats
    • Boxes – buildings under construction
    • Chests – to keep moths out and clothes in
    • Chicken coops, dairy doors, cellar doors, windows, desks and dog kennels
    • Drawers, elevators, factories, gates, hampers & handbags, harnesses, ice houses
    • Incubators for young chickens to prevent theft
    • Pigeon lofts – chickens are never too young to steal
    • Prospector’s kits – a Yale padlock fetched $18.00 in an auction in the Klondike

That list of history is interesting and shows the evolution of security. Ever thought about needing a padlock for a dairy door? What about a pigeon loft? Or a chicken coop? The quotes are from an article in McCline’s Magazine. Date unknown, but probably from the 1930’s or 1940’s.

It’s titled “Spending a Dollar to Save Two.” This is not an advertisement for a frugal person that hates to spend dollars – even to save two. It’s a dangerous advertisement to read because it highlights almost every need there could be for a padlock, and it reminds you that there’s scarcely a person who won’t find at least one reason to buy one. There are many other suggestions, but remember: don’t buy a sham padlock! (The little word “Yale” doesn’t cost much and is worth more.) Whatever you pay, you’re getting value for your money.
