Our Story

Founded by James "Jim" Queen in 1992, Loksafe began with humble roots-working at his dining room table out of a single service truck. Since then, it has grown into a full-service locksmith company - the largest in the area -- operating 10 service trucks and a storefront in North Shreveport. The business remains family-owned and operated as it's now owned by Jim's granddaughter, Katie Queen Pernell and her husband, Allen. Loksafe continues to adapt to industry changes while remaining grounded in our founder's core values of integrity, reliability, and a commitment to excellence. Our journey has been marked by steady growth, lasting relationships, and a dedication to exceeding expectations.

KEY MOMENTS

  • After a 22-year career in the Air Force, Jim explored small engine & lawn mower repair which eventually evolved into a locksmith business. He co-owned Barksdale Key & Lock for 8 years before working with A&A Locksmith until 1992.

  • He then started Loksafe out of his home. The business eventually took over his dining room table so in 1992, he opened Loksafe Services on Grimmett Drive in North Shreveport. Initially focusing on commercial, hospital, and institutional locksmithing, Loksafe later added additional door hardware & door replacements to its repertoire resulting in a name change: Loksafe Services and Door Hardware, Inc.

  • Jim emphasized the importance of education not only within his team but in his own professional development. Over the years, he pursued advanced training and certifications, earning his Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL), Certified Professional Locksmith (CPL), and ultimately Certified Master Locksmith (CML)-the highest level of locksmith certification in Louisiana. At the time, he was one of only three individuals in the state to achieve this distinction.

  • In 1996, he recognized a critical gap in locksmithing regulations-there were no laws preventing individuals with criminal backgrounds from entering the profession. Determined to make a difference, he made it his mission to help develop and push forward legislation, playing a key role in shaping the laws that exist today.

  • His efforts did not go unnoticed. In 1999, he was appointed to the State Licensing Board for Locksmiths by Governor Mike Foster. He was later selected as the locksmith representative for the Louisiana Life Safety & Security Association. He went on to serve on that board-and several others-and was honored as Outstanding Board Member of the Year in 2003 by the Louisiana Burglar & Alarm Association.

  • Jim's grandson, Joshua Queen, began working in the business at just 12 years old and went on to take over daily operations. During his leadership, he helped grow the customer base and elevate customer service, successfully guiding the company for years before relocating.

  • In the early 2000's, Loksafe started partnering with the St. Jude Dream Home giveaway and contributed to this great mission for years.
In 2003, Loksafe was awarded Small Business of the Year by the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce.

  • In 2004, Jim's dedication and leadership were recognized when he was named Louisiana Small Businessperson of the Year by Louisiana Economic Development. He was personally presented the award by Governor Kathleen Blanco at the Governor's Mansion.

  • In 2011, Jim's granddaughter, Katie Queen (Pernell), began assisting with administrative duties and focusing on marketing & community involvement for the company. Her involvement didn't go unnoticed as she was awarded the 40 Under 40 award in 2012 by the Young Professionals Initiative.

  • In 2013, Loksafe was awarded the Small Business of the Year award by the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce for the second time.

  • In 2016, after three expansions at the original location, Loksafe moved its operations just a couple of blocks down the street and expanded with a large storefront and even larger warehouse space.

  • In 2024, Katie and her husband, Allen Pernell, took over ownership of Loksafe and have since continued to grow the business and strengthen its reputation in the community. Loksafe is now the largest locksmith company in NWLA and is the only freestanding lock shop in the area.
